What we published
SB 7040 became law as Chapter 2026-180, approved on June 29, 2026 and effective the following day. A fairness note further down added that the law took effect on June 30 and the first reporting deadline fell fifteen days later.
What is correct
The act was approved by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State on June 29, 2026. Section 4 makes it effective upon becoming a law, so it took effect June 29, and the first reporting deadline fell sixteen days later.
What changed
The effective date was off by one day, and the interval to the first deadline was off by one day as a result.
How it happened
We took the effective date from the Senate bill history, which records June 30, 2026 as the date the chapter number was assigned. That is the date the act was numbered, not the date it took effect. We should have read section 4 of the act itself, which states the effective date directly. We had the enrolled text but had not pulled the chapter law.
What changed in verification
The claim was already tiered primary-verified on the enrolled text and the bill history. It remains primary-verified, now on the chapter law itself, which is the controlling document and which we have added as a source.
